Repairs

Bring Them In

Most eyeglass problems are small, mechanical, and fixable at the bench in a few minutes. A screw has worked loose, a hinge has gone soft, a nose pad has hardened, or the frame has been sat on and no longer sits level. None of that needs an appointment, and you do not need to have bought the glasses here.

We look at the frame first and tell you what is actually wrong before touching it. Some repairs are quick and free, some need a replacement part ordered, and a few are not worth doing on a frame that has reached the end of its life. You will get a straight answer either way, including when the honest answer is that a repair will not hold.

If the frame can be saved, we save it. If it cannot, we will say so and talk through the options, including reusing your existing lenses in a new frame where that is possible. Either way you leave knowing where you stand, and adjustments to glasses bought here remain part of the service for as long as you wear them.

What We Do

Common Repairs

Screws and hinges

A missing screw or a hinge that has lost its grip is the most common repair we see, and usually the quickest. We replace the screw, tighten and align the hinge, and check the other side while the glasses are in hand so the same thing does not happen next week.

Bent frames

Frames that have been slept on, sat on, or dropped often twist out of alignment rather than break. We straighten the front and the temples and re-level the fit on your face, which is what actually determines whether the lenses sit where they should.

Fit adjustments

Glasses that slide down, pinch behind the ears, or sit crooked can normally be adjusted rather than replaced. Nose pads, pad arms, and temple curves all get set to your face, and there is no charge for adjusting a pair you bought here.

Replacement parts

Nose pads, temple tips, and screws are kept in stock for most common frames. For manufacturer-specific parts we order them in and call you when they arrive, and we will tell you up front how long that is likely to take before you commit.

Cleaning and lens checks

While the glasses are with us we clean them properly, check the lenses for loose mounting and rim tension, and look at how worn the coatings are. Scratches cannot be polished out, but knowing where they are helps you decide whether new lenses are worth it.

New lenses, old frame

If your prescription changed but you like the frame, we can often reuse it, provided the material and hinges will survive glazing. We inspect it first and tell you honestly if we think it will crack, rather than risking a frame you are attached to.

Who It's For

Bring Them In If

Small problems are worth fixing early, before a loose hinge becomes a broken one. If any of the following sounds like your glasses, walk in and we will take a look at the bench.

  • A screw has fallen out
  • One arm is loose or wobbly
  • The frame sits crooked on your face
  • A lens keeps popping out
  • The nose pads are worn or missing
  • They slide down when you look down
  • The temple tips are cracked
  • You want your old frame reglazed

What To Expect

How A Repair Works

  1. 1

    Walk in

No appointment is needed and you do not need to have bought the glasses here. Bring the frame and any pieces that came off, even small ones, and try not to attempt a fix at home first — glue and household pliers usually make a repairable frame harder to repair properly.

  2. 2

    We look at the frame

An optician inspects the frame at the bench: the hinges, the screws, the rims and lens tension, the pads, and any existing stress marks in the material. This is where we find out whether the visible problem is the whole problem or a symptom of something further along.

  3. 3

    You get a straight answer

We tell you what is wrong, whether we can fix it, how long it will take, and what it will cost, before starting. If the honest answer is that a repair will not hold, or the frame has reached the end of its life, we say so rather than taking your money for a temporary patch.

  4. 4

    The repair

Most repairs happen at the bench while you wait — a matter of minutes for screws, pads, tips, and alignment. If a part has to be ordered, we tell you the realistic timeline, take your number, and call you as soon as it arrives rather than leaving you to check back.

  5. 5

    Refit and check

Before you leave we put the glasses back on your face and adjust the fit, because a mechanically correct repair still needs to sit level to be any use. We also point out anything worth keeping an eye on, so you know what is likely to need attention next.

Repairs and adjustments are walk-in. Bring your glasses by during office hours and we will take a look.

Our Approach

How We Do It

Diagnose before repairing

Diagnose before repairing

A loose arm is sometimes just a screw, and sometimes a hinge that has begun to separate from the frame front. Those need different work, and treating the second like the first is why a repair comes undone a fortnight later. So we look at the whole frame before touching it: hinge condition, stress marks in the material, rim tension around the lenses, and how the pads and tips have worn. That inspection costs a couple of minutes and decides whether the fix is worth doing at all.

Fixed properly, fitted properly

Fixed properly, fitted properly

A repair is not finished when the frame is mechanically sound; it is finished when the glasses sit correctly on your face again. So every repair ends with a refit — leveling the front, setting the temple curves, adjusting the pads — because that is what puts the lenses back in front of your pupils. We clean the glasses, hand them back, and tell you what to watch for. Adjustments to a pair bought here stay free for as long as you wear them, no appointment needed.
